Albert T. Vercauteren

August 12, 1921 — April 3, 2008

Albert "Al" T. "Trouble" Vercauteren, 86, died Thursday April 03, 2008 at Weyauwega Health Care Center in Weyauwega. He was born August 12, 1921 near Cumberland, WI son of the late Lamont and Martha Vercauteren. He lived in Illinois and Idaho before returning to Wisconsin. On October 6, 1956 he married Winnie Raprager. Winnie preceded him in death on July 12, 2002. For most of his adult life, Al worked in various cheese factories around Wisconsin. He was very proud to have retired from Weyauwega Milk Products (Trega Foods) after 23 years of service. During that time he and Winnie also managed a restaurant (Wega Café) on Main Street in Weyauwega for a few years. After retirement, Al enjoyed being with his family, gardening, lawn mowing, making wind chimes and windmills from aluminum cans. For approximately 15 years he took care of the mowing and trimming for Evanswood Cemetery on Little River Road. Al was very active volunteering for many years at the Weyauwega Nutrition Site. He also enjoyed attending services at Hope United Church of Christ and interacting with his many friends there. Albert is survived by his daughter: Gloria Larsen; grandson: Reuben Larsen; three sisters: Florence Mumchow, Cumberland, WI; Bernice Petersen and Mary Anne Buchmeier, Mesa, AZ; one brother: Joseph Schmid, Pueblo, CO; a brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Besides his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie; granddaughter, Cheryle Larsen; son-in-law, James Larsen; two brothers: Francis Vercauteren and Alphonse Vercauteren. The funeral service for Al will be held 11:00 AM Monday April 7, 2008 at Hope United Church of Christ, 8950 Alpine Rd. Fremont, WI with Pastor Alex Tychkin officiating. Burial will in Evanswood Cemetery, Town of Weyauwega. Friends may call at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home, Weyauwega from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday and Monday at the church from 10:00AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
