Dorothy L. Bauer

Age 86, of Manawa, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the New London Family Medical Center. She was born on July 1, 1924, in Waupaca, Wisconsin, a daughter of Ira and Violet Whitney. She graduated from Waupaca High School with the class of 1941. She furthered her education, graduating in 1943 from the Wautoma Teacher's College. She taught in Waupaca County Schools prior to her marriage to John J. Bauer on June 3, 1944 in Waupaca. John preceded her in death on December 30, 2003. After their marriage, John and Dorothy farmed near Waupaca until moving their family to the Town of Union in 1961 where they farmed until retirement in 1981. They then purchased a home in the Town of Little Wolf. After John's death, Dorothy moved to the Little Wolf River Senior Village in the city of Manawa. Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manawa and active in the Alter Society. She loved to cook for her family and she always looked forward to family visits. She followed her favorite sports teams, the Packers and Brewers. She is survived by her nine children, Mary Bestul, Shawano, Barbara Bauer, Tucson, Az., Anthony Bauer, Manawa, Stephen (Linda) Bauer, Manawa, Theresa (Michael) Ison, Mansfield, OH, Philip (Linda) Bauer, Florence, SC, Jane (John) Bauknecht, Gore, VA, Jon (Jeannette) Bauer, Manawa and Bernard (Jeanne) Bauer, Manawa. Nineteen grandchildren, Linda (Mark) Caswell, Sara (Richard) Thomas, Rachel (Michael) Stevens, Matthew (Allison) Bauer, Alissa (Daniel) Bauer, Gena ( Ryan) Gullixon, Jeremy (Katie) Bauer, Jarrod (Jamie) Ison, Richard (Kim) Ison, Adam (Carrie) Ison, Jessica (Rick) Ison, Scott Bauer, Josie Bauknecht, Kari (Tim) Spaulding, Lacey (Scott) Miehe, Emily (Andy) Huettl, Daniel (Abby) Bauer, David Bauer, Jamie (Andrew) Bauer. Seventeen great grandsons and six great granddaughters, a sister, Faye (Dean) Borchert, a brother Elmer (Ann) Whitney and a brother-in-law, Frank Bauer, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Michael and Fredrick, five sisters and one brother. The Funeral Mass for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manawa with Fr. Brian Belongia officiating. Burial will be in Mary Magdalene Cemetery in Waupaca. Visitation will be held at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa on Wednesday, April 6th from 4 to 7 pm. and Thursday from 10:00 am at the church until the time of the service. Memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Sturm Memorial Library in Manawa are appreciated.
