Edwin William Flater, age 84, of Manawa, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, January 12, 2026.
Ed was born on June 21, 1941, on the family farm in Manawa, one of four siblings. He attended Green Valley School and worked at Jones Farm Store, Trade Winds, and the Veterans Home in King until his retirement.
Ed loved hunting, fishing, shooting pool, and cutting wood. He also enjoyed woodworking, making fishing jigs, gardening, tending to food plots, fishing up north, and attending his grandchildren's extracurricular activities. Ed was a loving husband and father, a giving grandfather, a kind friend, and cherished spending time with his family.
Ed is survived by his son, Ronald (Janet) Flater; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Flater; grandchildren, Brandon (Morgan) Flater and Trevor Flater; and siblings, Delores Seefeldt and Ardella Pethke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Flater; son, Brian Flater; parents, William and Alice Flater (Nemmutz); and sister, Margaret Bailey. He was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nephews.
A funeral service for Ed will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa, with Rev. Nathan Reichle officiating. Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
