Evan John Rohde

Age 86, a life-long resident of the Manawa area, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. He was born on June 25, 1921, son of the late Edgar & Laura (Ora) Rohde. On October 23, 1943, he married Lynda Wandtke and they celebrated 53 years of wedded happiness until her death in 1996. He proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the engineering corp stationed in Italy. When he returned to Wisconsin, he purchased a milk truck route and prospered in the milk hauling business for several years. In 1958, he accepted the position of superintendent of public works for the City of Manawa. He worked nearly 30 years in this capacity. As a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa, he served on the council and was very active with other committees. He also served as a volunteer fireman for 25 years. After his retirement, he occupied his time with travel, gardening and spending time with his family. He is survived by three children: Susan Hein, Manawa; Jon (Judy) Rohde, Appleton; Kathie (Thomas) Adler, Hubertus; 3 grandchildren: Larry Hein, Manawa; Kristine Hein Denver, CO; Bryan Adler, Milwaukee; brothers: Elmer Rohde, Marion; Gene Rohde, Clintonville; Lee Rohde, Las Vegas, NV. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, also sisters Edna, Dora and Ada; and a brother Alan. The funeral for Evan will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Blaine Niskanen officiating. Burial will be in Little Wolf Cemetery in Manawa. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Elevator Fund.
