Gene D. Gilbertson

Gene Duane Gilbertson, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Theda Clark in Neenah with family by his side. Gene was born March 22, 1944 in Neenah, son of the late Reuben and Violet (Johnson) Gilbertson.

Gene attended Neenah High School. Upon graduation, Gene joined the Navy. He was stationed in San Diego and served his country in Vietnam. After his military service, Gene graduated from Fox Valley Technical Institute as a welders apprentice on May 3, 1976. On July 27, 1974, Gene married Peggy Green. Although they later divorced, Gene and Peggy stayed friends and remained close up till his passing. Gene enjoyed camping and traveling and spending time with his family.

Gene is survived by his best friend, Peggy; children: Tim Gilbertson, Kelly (Louis) Jimenez, Shawn (Greg) Fox, Randy Smick, and Michelle (Dave) Soules; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; he is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Barley.

A Celebration of Life for Gene will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 1:00-4:00pm at the Plover VFW.
