Helen R. Ostermeier, 97, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2013. She is now with her beloved Ostie, our father and grandfather, in heaven. Helen was born January 3, 1916, in Sheridan, Illinois and grew up on her parent's farm in rural Iowa during The Great Depression. Her parents Alert and Gurine (Aurebeck) Rasmussen immigrated to this country from Norway. Helen benefitted from the value they placed on education for their children. Helen attended Waldorf College in Iowa and went on to graduate as a Registered Nurse from Fairview Hospital of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. During World War II Helen became a United States Public Health Nurse and was assigned to the U.S. Marine Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. There she met her husband, Dr. E.F. Ostermeier, a Navy dental officer. They were married on April 19, 1941 in Arlington, Virginia. During her husband's years of service, Helen worked at hospitals in Bakersfield, California and Alameda, California. In 1947 the family moved to Weyauwega, Wisconsin where Dr. Ostermeier practiced dentistry. Helen assisted her husband in his office for many years before his retirement. Helen was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a charter member of the Weyauwega Garden Club, a member of Kensington and other bridge clubs. Helen will be lovingly remembered for her award winning flower arrangements, duck and pheasant dinners, pink kitchen, love of nature and enjoying her nightly glass of Chateau La Salle wine. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters Gertrude and Evelyne, her brothers Arnold and Mervan (Bud). She is survived by her son Jan Ostermeier and his wife, Mary; daughter Donna Rasmussen and her partner Shannon Peters; grandson Christopher Mitchell; step-grandchildren Joshua Gade and Rebecca (Becca) Gade; special great-grandchildren Jonah, Casson and Ben; sister-in-law, Jeannine Rasmussen; nieces and nephews.
