59, Waupaca, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012, at Crystal River Nursing and Rehab Center in Waupaca, after a life-long battle with diabetes. He was born July 9, 1953, to Arturs and Rita (Kalnins) Baltmanis in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jon graduated from West Allis Central High School in 1971 and later earned a degree in forestry at UW-Madison. He worked as a forester for the private sector and DNR before returning to UW-Madison in 1986 for a master's degree in forest science. Jon's passion for the outdoors, woodworking, and Latvian heritage were applied while managing several businesses including Johnny B. Woode and Baltic Trading Company. On September 26, 1998, Jon married the love of his life, Olga Lulaka. During their marriage, they lived in the Waupaca area working, pursuing hobbies, and spending time with family and friends. Jon was perhaps best known for his civic and political contributions. As a member of the Wisconsin Council on Physical Disabilities he advocated for the disabled population. Jon tirelessly promoted the growth and development of the Waupaca County's Democratic Party. In 2010 Jon ran for State Assembly. Nearest to Jon's heart, was managing Siberia's Children's Fund, an organization devoted to the awareness of displaced children during the Russian occupancy of Latvia. Jon's endearing legacy includes his family, faith, his persistent social tolerance, and his good humor. His parents and a brother Peter preceded him in death. Jon will be missed by his wife Olga; a brother, Martin; four daughters: Andrea (Nate) Garn, Jenny (Mike)Baltmanis, Linda (Ramiro) Morales, and Laima (Harold) Cesar, five granddaughters, two nephews Peter (Beth) and Eric, two grandnieces, a grandnephew, and many other relatives and friends. His ashes will be laid to rest in Garsene Cemetery in Latvia, next to his parents. A memorial service for Jon will be held at 11AM Friday November 16, 2012, at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home (200 S. Mill St., Weyauwega) with Rev. Lauma Zusevics officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 10AM Friday until the time of the service. Memorial fund donations will be preferred over remembrance by flowers.
