Sandra Lee Akey, age 76 of Neenah, formerly of Waupaca, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, September 13, 2018. She was born on June 4, 1942 in Norwood, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Everett and Gladys (Gove) Covieo. Sandy graduated from Walpole High School in Massachusetts, and continued her education at Katharine Gibbs School of Business in Boston. She worked as a Legal Secretary at Morrow Law Office in Waupaca and before her retirement with Omholt & Forsythe Law Office in Manawa. Sandy loved being a Boy Scout Leader for many years. She was an avid bowler and was proud of being on her national bowling team. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sporting events. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Waupaca. Sandy married Mark Akey on February 4, 1994. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2000.
She is survived by her children: Laura (Ed) Hannay, Il; Linda Minten, WI; William (Melanie) Ledger, WI; Jeffrey Ledger, WI; Chistopher (Dorinda) Akey, WI; Eric (Trisha) Akey, WI; Amanda (Travis) Dash, WI and Kim (Kirk) Delwiche; grandchildren: Joshua and Jesse Peterson; Meredith (Peter) Alvarez, Corey Pawlowski, Ian and Drew Ledger, Frank Ledger; Kaitlyn (Kyle) Thompson, Kelsey, Karissa, and Kiley Akey; Carlie (Treg) De Santis; Lauren and Bryce Akey; Kylee, Caden, Jaylyn and Blake Akey; Olivia and Natalie Dash, Connor and Riley Delwiche,; great-grandchildren: Carson and Noah Peterson; Caitrin Hannay-Alvarez; Nathanial Santiago and Oliver Haase. She is further survived by, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Ryan Akey; a granddaughter Aislinn Sisson Ledger; brothers-in-law Lyle Frachette and Dennis Timm, also a very special friend David Forsberg.
A memorial service to celebrate Sandy's life will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Life Celebration Center of Weyauwega. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the celebration center from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
The family would like to thank Becky and Barb at Unique Trends in Waupaca, for making mom look so beautiful the last 30 years. Also thanks to the compassionate staff at Matthews Memory Care in Neenah, for their loving care. And also Compassus Hospice for being there with us until the end. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
